Nick Smith

I’ve lost countless hours of sleep hanging out with Nick Smith late into the night. He tells intimate, personal stories I would never dare to reveal in such a fun and hilarious way. You almost forget you’re both on the street screaming.

He tells intimate, personal stories

Characters explode out of him. Nobody does better work in a wig. — Nick makes videos and hosts a monthly theme show at Pinebox Rock Shop starting in January.

Jared Weil

Jared is interesting because he’s a good person that sometimes does bad things if he deems them funny. One time he wore tap shoes during an improv set. His teammates didn’t know he was going to do it judging by their disgusted expressions as he proceeded to edit every scene with loud, judgmental, clacking steps. It was one of funniest thing I’ve ever seen.

Jared is interesting

Sometimes you love Jared, sometimes you hate him. I’ve learned not to take it personally.—Jared performs when asked to about 50% of the time. It really depends.

Sefa Urgenc

I went on a two week vacation to Turkey with Sefa and it was such an incredible experience. There is nobody more kind or generous than Sefa.

There is nobody more kind

His comedy is so weird and fun and silly, there just isn’t anyone else like him. —Sefa co-hosts a podcast called Cat Talk (Produced by Mike Lacy) with fellow cat enthusiasts Marshall Louise and Paul Higbie that is charming and very funny.

Ben Wasserman

This is a controversial pick. I don’t know Ben very well. We’ve never talked one-on-one and if I’m being honest I’ve only seen him perform a few times but he’s always posting stuff on Facebook that makes me laugh real, out loud laughter.

I’ve only seen him perform a few times

It’s a skill not everyone has and I commend him for it.— Ben hosts a show called Side Pony Tail and he’s doing a special called Live at The BBC in a few weeks.

Manolo Moreno

I asked Manolo to join me at a bar and play a board game he’d never heard of, so he did. That’s the kind of friend Manolo is. He’s good at making things. One time for a bit he played a DJ and made amazingly detailed cardboard records and speakers and headphones and turntables and that switcher thing DJs use to switch between the two turntables. The bit was hilariously funny but what really stuck with me were all the elaborate props he made.

He’s good at making things

It was so unique and demonstrated a level of care I had never seen put into a comedy bit.— Manolo is an animator, produces Hell House at Our Wicked Lady, and does stand up around town.

Well, there you have it. A list of five people that I know personally who are comedians. I noticed none of them were women also but by then it was too late, I already had five! I can assure you this will be rectified next year.
